Keep Your Big-Picture Goal In Mind

Every so often it is a good idea to take some time out of your day to sit back and reflect on what you are doing. We often find ourselves working hard with our heads down without the big picture in mind. So ask yourself this: Are my goals for this week in line with what I want to accomplish in the long run? Are my daily tasks adding to the foundation of my long-term plan? Answering these simple questions is not always an easy task, and that is okay. Don’t rush to find the answer; let the answer come to you.

Think of your overall big-picture goal like that of a honey bee colony. Bees are extremely sophisticated insects that work as a team to achieve the queen’s goals. Essentially, the thousands of individual insects work as if they were one entity through a complex system of communication in order to get the job done. If they communicate poorly, then the colony may not achieve its goals.

Communicate With Your Queen Bee

If your daily tasks are not properly ‘communicating’ with your queen bee – your overall big-picture goal – then it is possible that your goal may become bogged down and even lost within your pile of daily to-do’s. If you don’t already do this, be sure to keep a list of your daily and long-term goals. Keeping a physical list in front of you can help you stay in line with what is most important.
